How to install sensors in the transformer according to IEC
noviembre 06 2020
Do you know how to install HotSpot sensors in the transformer according to IEC?
First of all, sensor installation “shall” meet IEC 60076-2 Annex E standard
- For repeatable and accurate results
- Direct contact probes
- Mechanically robust fiber and tip protection
Based on the IEC 60076-2 Annex E:
- “The sensors should be placed in direct contact with the insulation of the winding conductors”
- “The sensor should be placed at the center of the spacer”
- “Because of the intrinsic fragility of sensors and optical fibre cables, attention should be paid for avoiding dangerous mechanical stresses and vibrations during the manufacturing process and in operation”
- “For avoiding reading errors, the movement of oil around the sensor head should be impeded reducing to the minimum the dimensions of the channel made on the spacer or/and blocking the entry”
From IEEE Std 1538a-2015:
“Theoretically it is obvious that installing the sensor in direct contact with the bare conductor metal results in the best performance. However, it is difficult to obtain this in reality. The error due to the location in the spacer is typically less than 2C in common designs”.
However, this is NOT difficult when using the EasyDisk:
Insist on having sensor in direct contact with the conductor
FISO EasyDisk locks to the 3mm spiral wrap cable and is the source of mechanical integrity, not relying on epoxy.
Optical fiber used may be OM1 type and has improved Crush and Impact performance as compared to 200um type “first generation” alternatives.
All in all, the Easy Disk :
- Increases long term reliability
- Tip and fiber protection are robust
- Fully dielectrically tested : cable + sensor + EasyDisk
The EasyDisk is the industry’s only IEC60076-2 Annex E compliant sensor tip installation option!
Ensures accurate and repeatable measurements
